PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It’s AGM time – and a chance to reflect on some of the highlights for Burwood Tennis Club in the last 12 months.

Of course, the Clubhouse renovations kicked off in March and are now well underway.

Plans are available in the club for anyone interested in seeing what the clubhouse will look like on completion. Essentially the front entry area will be totally different to accommodate disabled access. Bathrooms are getting updated. The kitchen is getting equipped with some new kit. Heating and lighting will be upgraded. And we’ll be getting the north side pathway illuminated for our night players.

Obviously there will be some disruption during this period. The first phase of works targets the north side of the Clubhouse (front entry, bathrooms, office and lobby area around the welcome centre). Access to the Clubhouse in that time is via the door on the Warrigal Rd side of the Club, and the main Club room, kitchen and bar will still be operational. Temporary toilets are provided during this stage of the works – adjacent to Court 1.

Funding for the project only extends to the Clubhouse infrastructure and does not include courts or fencing. So we still need to fund and maintain those areas ourselves from our membership base.

Speaking of funding, we are voting on a new membership category at the AGM, which we hope will help to attract some more mid-week members – especially for mid-week ladies.

The Committee also negotiated a new agreement with Toptenn in 2015/16 which will see Toptenn and BTC continue their mutually beneficial relationship. We are really pleased to move forward with Peter, Chrissie and the team.

Finally, let’s not forget our teams who have again done us proud in the recently completed summer comp. We had a number of teams across Juniors and Seniors making Grand Finals and we continue to punch above our weight relative to clubs with larger member numbers.

Best wishes,

Neil Kafer Sunday 17th April, 2016

BTC 2011 Trivia Night PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 02 September 2011 07:06

On Saturday the 20th of August 5 teams battled it out at the annual Burwood Tennis Club Trivia Night, hosted by long time Burwood Member and Toptenn Coach Ashwyn Perera. Ash volunteered to take the trivia night reign’s after Tristan Harper, who ran the event last year, was unavailable with university commitments.

Despite having gigantic shoes to fill, Ash continued the trend of charismatic presenters and put the entire night together which tested teams on their music, history, geography, sport (including tennis of course!) and even physical skills through mini games in between rounds.
